MIC Electronics, LED Technology Company which has experience is providing billing solutions to telecom companies, is working on a strategy to provide similar solutions to power distribution utilities. The company is pinning hopes on the Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme (APDRP) of the government for its foray in the energy sector.

MIC plans to bring new backend technology to modernise billing activity in power distribution. For technology, it is talking to the Australia-based Hansen Technologies. It has not yet signed them, but would be their partners in the Indian market. Hansen has already implemented its billing solutions in other parts of the world and the same technology would now be available to Indian distribution companies, too

The company has completed the initial phases of bidding in Punjab and Andhra Pradesh to provide these solutions. “We participated in the bidding as system integrators. Once it gets the order, it has to complete the solution implementation in 18 months and maintain the technology for about five years.

While the budget for this in Punjab is about Rs 300 crore, it is about Rs 350 crore in Andhra Pradesh. The company is planning to get another state into its fold. Under the APDRP, the government allocated Rs 10,000 crore towards modernisation of processes of power utilities, which would be done by IT-enabling the utilities to reduce transmission, distribution and billing losses. MIC’s efforts in this area are likely to yield results in the next financial year.
