Moser Baer achieves 7.3% efficiency on solar panels

10 Mar 2010 Evaluate

The solar photo voltaic business of Moser Baer has achieved 7.3% module efficiency for 400W thin film large size module, which will make its plant capacity go up from 40 MW to about 50 MW, without additional capital expenditure. The company expects a 20% cost advantage on large size modules.

The process has been designed in the company's solar PV plant at Greater Noida by an in-house research team. This improves the module wattage from 340 watts per panel to 400 watts per panel on full size modules.

These thin film modules can be used for rooftop installations and for solar farms. This achievement is very timely. It will help Moser Baer address and reach the goals set in the National Solar Mission effectively by deploying these modules in large size solar installations.

The completion of testing and validation of breakthrough technology has enhanced the stable efficiency of its single junction thin film modules from 6% to 7.3%. The breakthrough proprietary process will improve the viability of a-silicon technology for the solar farms projects.

This proprietary process is a game changer and will help us in addressing certain sections of the market. What makes this proprietary process special is that it is for the first time that any Indian player has achieved this efficiency in this module size.
