Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) is planning to take the total power generation capacity to 12,221 mega watt(MW) from the current 2740 MW. In this regard, the company is planning to set up over 600 mega watt (MW) of solar based power generation. The lignite-based power producer has been looking at coal and now entering into renewable including solar and wind.
The company is setting up smaller solar projects of 10/15 MW capacity in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan with a total capacity of 50 MW. In addition to these solar projects, it is proposed to install 100 MW solar project at Neyveli, for which identification of suitable land is under progress.
Further, the company is in talks with Tamil Nadu government and with other states government to get required and for setting up of higher capacity solar projects of 500 MW and above. These projects will be implemented based on land availability and techno economic viability of the project.
Neyveli Lignite Corporation is engaged in the business of lignite mining and power generation. At present, the company has four opencast lignite mines.
