Neyveli Lignite’s Unit 2 of ‘NTPL TPS’ qualifies for commercial operation

Neyveli Lignite Corporation’s JVC - NTPL has established a 1,000 MW (2 Units of 500 MW) Coal based Thermal Power Plant (TPS) at Thoothukudi. NLC Tamil Nadu Power (NTPL) is a joint venture company (JVC) of Neyveli Lignite Corporation NLC (89%) and TANGEDCO (11%). Unit II of this project has successfully completed 72 hours of continuous operation on August 28, 2015. The unit will now be put into commercial operation.

Earlier, Unit-I of this TPS attained Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) on June 18, 2015. With this, the power generation capacity of NLC has increased to 4,240 MW (including its subsidiaries) from 3,740 MW. As the 51 MW Wind Power Project ( Tirunelveli District) and 10 MW Solar Power Project (Neyveli) are in the advanced stage of completion NLC will step up its Power Generation capacity to 4,301 MW soon.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation is engaged in the business of lignite mining and power generation. At present, the company has four opencast lignite mines.
