04 Sep 2009 Evaluate

Moser Baer India has been awarded an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract to set up a 1 MW solar project in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, for Mahagenco, Maharastra’s State-owned generation utility.

The solar power plant was awarded on the basis of a global tender in which 20 companies participated. It will commission the project in consortium with SunEnergy GmbH of Germany, a specialised photovoltaic systems company based in Germany. The Chandrapur solar farm is among the largest projects anywhere in the world using amorphous silicon (thin film) photovoltaic technology. The agreement includes commissioning the project by January 2010 and maintaining it.

The cost of the project, according to sources, is Rs 12.5 crore. The electricity generated from the solar plant will be bought by the utility at Rs 15 a kWh – the price fixed by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy – of which the State Government will pay Rs 3 and the balance from the Union Ministry.
