The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries
(RIL), Anil Ambani’s Reliance Natural Resources (RNRL) and the Centre on cross-appeals by both the companies on their gas supply dispute. While issuing notice to the two companies and the ministry of petroleum and natural gas (an intervener), a bench headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan posted the matter for hearing on July 20.
While both companies have approached the apex court, the substance of their pleas is totally different. RIL has asked the SC to set aside a Bombay High Court order directing it to sell 28 mmscmd of gas at $2.34 per mmBtu (a unit of measurement) for 17 years. In contrast, RNRL wants the SC to order RIL to implement the HC order by signing a bankable agreement. RNRL has also asked the Supreme Court to allow it to sell its share of the KG basin gas. The RNRL counsel, Mahesh Agarwal, said that the company had failed to put up a power plant in the past three years due to problems created by RIL.
RNRL has also sought a stay on the allocation and supply of gas to other users, including those currently receiving the gas, on the ground that it might be depleted. RIL is currently supplying to a clutch of power and fertilizer companies at a price of $4.20 set by the government.crackcrackCompany Name | CMP |
