Karnataka yesterday inked two separate MoUs with NTPC and Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) for setting up thermal power plants of 4,000 mw at Kudigi (Bijapur district), and 2,400 mw at Edlapur and Yermarus (Raichur). It will also set up 500 mw wind energy farms with NTPC at six locations. Under the Rs 20,000-crore project being set up by the Power Company of Karnataka (PCKL), three units of 800 mw each and two units of 800 mw each are being set up in two phases at Kudigi, about 30 km from Bijapur. Karnataka will provide 3,000 acres land and 5.2 tmc water from the Almatti dam. The first unit is expected to be commissioned by March 2012.
The second MoU is for a joint venture between Karnataka Power Corporation (KPCL) and Bhel for setting a 660 mw thermal plant at Edlapur and two units of 800 mw each at Yermarus near the existing Raichur thermal power station (RTPS), besides an additional unit at RTPS. Bhel and KPCL will hold 26% each with IDFC providing the balance 48% equity capital in the projects. The power would be sold exclusively to the state at rates determined by Karnataka Energy Regulatory Commission (KERC), with Bhel granted the right to exit after commencement of Commercial operations.
Karnataka has collaborated with NTPC in environment-friendly initiative in developing 500 mw wind farm at six different locations in north Karnataka at an estimated cost of Rs 2,500 crore. crackcrackCompany Name | CMP |
