Tata Motors reports 19% fall in auto sales in February 2009

Bucking the buoyancy in the car and two wheeler sales, Tata Motors recorded 19% fall in total sales to 48,311 units in February 2009.  Total sales include commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles, and domestic sales as well as exports.  It recorded 39% fall in commercial vehicle production to 20,231 units and 12.5% fall in passenger vehicle production to 16,555 units in February 2009.

Domestic sale of commercial vehicles fell by 25% to 23,454 units while exports tumbled down by 66.7% to 1,040 units in February 2009.  As a result, Tata Motors recorded 28.9% fall in commercial vehicle sales to 24,494 units in February 2009.  During this period, its domestic passenger vehicle sales inched up by 1.5% to 19,039 units, but 71.5% fall in exports to 278 units lead to 2.1% fall in total passenger vehicle sales to 19,317 units. Overall, the company’s domestic sales fell by 11.8% to 412,460 units while exports fell by 34.8% to 31,611 units in the eleven months ended February 2009.
