Dunlop India has decided to resume partial operations at the company’ Sahagunj unit in West Bengal. However, local employee unions are yet to warm up to Dunlop’s proposal to resume operations partially at Sahagunj. The company can partially lift suspension of operations immediately only after the West Bengal State Electricity Board (WBSEB) decides to restore power. In the first phase, the engineering team, relating to the industrial products (IP) section, will be called for work to refurbish the machinery required for these sections. The company intends to evaluate the total cost and time involved in such refurbishment to arrive at a cost-benefit analysis. The company also plans to install a separate boiler of smaller capacity or rectify the existing boiler to make IP production cost effective. In the second phase, the company will try to restart production of OTR range of tyres after procuring necessary orders from Coal India, its subsidiaries and other government/public undertakings. The requisite number of additional manpower for OTR range will be taken on duty, accordingly in a phased manner.
