Coal India (CIL), the largest coal producing company in the world, has presented a cheque amounting to Rs 5,400.49 crore as dividend to the government. The company has paid this dividend for the year 2011-12. The acting chairman and managing director of the company presented the dividend cheque to the Coal Minister.
The coal major had earlier proposed to pay a dividend of Rs 5,684.73 crore to the government for 2011-12. However, for fiscal 2010-11 the company had paid Rs 2,217 crore, for 2009-10 amount of Rs 2,210 crore and for 2008-09 amount of Rs 1,705 crore as dividend to the government.
Coal India is the largest coal producing company in the world. The company also produces non-coking coal and coking coal of various grades for diverse applications.
