Canara Bank inches up on reducing interest rates on housing loan

Canara Bank is currently trading at Rs. 476.15, up by 2.50 points or 0.53% from its previous closing of Rs. 473.65 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 475.90 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 485.00 and Rs. 475.00 respectively. So far 16634 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 667.90 on 18-Apr-2011 and a 52 week low of Rs. 349.05 on 27-Dec-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 485.00 and Rs. 444.30 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 21086.80 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 67.72% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 24.81% and 7.47% respectively.  

Canara Bank has reduced the rate of interest on all new housing loans across most repayment tenors and quantum slabs with effect from April 02, 2012.

For loans between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 75 lakh, the interest rate reduction ranges between 0.25 to 0.75 percent depending on the repayment tenor while for loans above Rs 75 lakh, the bank has reduced the interest rate in range between 0.25 to 1.75 percent depending on the repayment tenor.

Besides, the bank has waived additional interest of 0.25 percent for acquiring second residential unit. This reduction in interest rates by the bank translates into substantial savings to the borrowers by bringing down their monthly obligations.
