09 Apr 2012 Evaluate

ONGC is likely to start power production at Tripura Power Company’s (TPCL) plant in June 2012. ONGC Petro-additions (OPaL) will also commission its C2-C3 (ethane-propane) plant at Dahej in Gujarat in the first quarter of 2013-14.

TPCL has established a 726.6 MW (363x2) gas-based thermal power plant at Palatana, Tripura, and laid a 650-km-long 400kV direct current transmission system up to Bongaigaon for evacuation of power. The combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facility is expected to bring in investments of Rs 9,000 crore in the power-deficit, but natural gas rich region.

Recently, ONGC had been awarded six blocks by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India under NELP IX. Of the six blocks, the company had bagged four as operator and two as minority partner. Besides, its bids were rejected for 8 areas including five deep-sea blocks.
