Hindustan Zinc inks pact with Rajasthan government

Vedanta group firm Hindustan Zinc has entered into an agreement with the Rajasthan government to set up the first sewage treatment plant in the state at Udaipur. According to the agreement, Hindustan Zinc will build a 20 million litres per day capacity sewage treatment plant (STP) in Udaipur with a cost of Rs 170 crore. The plant will only be treating domestic sewage and not industrial sewage.

The sewage treatment plant will be constructed on design- build-own-operate-transfer basis and it will generate a large quantity of manure, which will be sold by Udaipur Municipal Corporation on fortnightly basis and would generate revenue of Rs 1 crore every year for the department.

The company’s net profit for the quarter dipped by 20.35% at Rs 1412.84 crore as compared to Rs 1771.27 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2011. Its total Income decreased marginally by 0.84% to Rs 3516.06 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2012 from Rs 3545.89 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2011.
