Amid the hue and cry over the excessive pricing of 2G spectrum, the regulator - Telecom Commission has decided to provide more spectrum and ease the rollout obligations in the upcoming 2G spectrum auction. Earlier, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had proposed auction of 5MHZ, however, the inter-ministerial panel has suggested auction of at least 10 MHz of spectrum in each circle. Also, the existing telecom companies in the 2G spectrum can bid for a maximum of two blocks of 1.25 MHz each. This decision has cheered up the telecom companies who were sounding off over the pricing of 2G by TRAI.
