MOIL secures nod for exploration of ore reserve in Maharashtra

Manganese Ore India (MOIL), country’s largest manganese miner has received letters from Government of India, Ministry of Mines, informing, grant of prospecting license for 597.44 hectors land out of reserved area of 814.71 hectors, for the purpose of exploring, locating or proving ore reserve. The Maharashtra government had earlier reserved an area of 814.71 hectares of land in Nagpur and Bhandara district.

Recently, the company received its board’s approval for project of sinking of high speed vertical shaft at its Balaghat Mine. The production is expected to increase from 450,000 tonnes per annum to 800,000 tonnes per annum, through the project. The production is expected to increase gradually from the year 2015-16.

MOIL is the largest iron ore company in India and fifth largest in world. It currently operates seven underground mines (Kandri, Munsar, Beldongri, Gumgaon, Chikla, Balaghat and Ukwa mines) and three opencast mines (Dongri Buzurg, Sitapatore/Sukli, and Tirodi). The company is actively involved in exploration and development activities with a view to increase its proven manganese ore reserves.
