Credit rating agency, CARE has reaffirmed the assigned ‘A1+’ rating to the Certificate of Deposit (CD) Programme of Andhra Bank for Rs 20,000 crore. Given the bank’s regional concentration and medium size, its ability to grow its business, increase its share of fee income and maintain asset quality especially by preventing slippages from restructured assets are the key rating sensitivities.
The rating factors in the majority ownership of Andhra Bank by the Government of India (GoI), comfortable capitalization levels, growth in total business, strong asset quality, high provision coverage, good risk management systems and high technology orientation certificate of deposit .
Andhra Bank is a Hyderabad-based, medium-sized public sector bank which was founded in 1923. The GoI holds 58% stake in the bank. The bank is relatively smaller than its peers with an asset base of Rs 108,901 crore as of March 31, 2011.
