Hero MotoCorp to set up manufacturing plants in Gujarat and Rajasthan

In a bid to establish new manufacturing plants in Gujarat and Rajasthan each and an R&D centre by 2013-14, Hero MotoCorp, the country’s largest two-wheeler maker is planning to invest Rs 2,575 crore.

Of the total investment of Rs 2,575 crore, the company will spend Rs 400 crore for its fourth plant at Neemrana in Rajasthan, which will have an installed capacity of 7.5 lakh units per annum while, the company will invest Rs 1,100 crore in its fifth plant, which will be established in Gujarat with a total capacity of 1.2 million units.

The Neemrana plant will be commissioned in the first quarter of FY 2014 while, the fifth plant in Gujarat would be commissioned by the second quarter of 2013-14. Further, the company will invest Rs 400 crore in setting up a R&D centre at a 250-acre location near Jaipur in Rajasthan.

Currently, for capacity expansion of existing plants, the company is in the process of investing Rs 500 crore and has also set aside Rs 175 crore for various other investments.

Presently, the company is manufacturing 70 lakh units per annum from its three manufacturing plants at Dharuhera and Gurgaon in Haryana, and Haridwar in Uttarakhand.
