Jet Airways, India's largest airline by market share, in a bid to increase its market share will commence daily flights from Thiruvananthapuram to Sharjah from October 30. The airline will deploy its state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 aircraft on this new route, offering 16 Premiere and 138 Economy seats.

Jet Airways believes that this new route will have the potential to serve the needs of its corporate and business travelers, especially from the South. The airline currently operates a daily flight from Kochi to Sharjah while its other flights connect various Indian cities to 10 destinations in the Middle East.

Recently, Jet Airways was eyeing geographical expansion as the airline company was looking to add routes in the South East Asian and Gulf markets in the next one or two quarters. Also, Jet Airways carried a record 2 million passengers in May, thus creating history in the Indian aviation industry. Jet Airways flew 1.55 million passengers on its domestic and international network, while JetLite flew 4,70,000 guests in May 2011, to achieve this unique milestone in the Indian Aviation sector.
