The Union Minister for Coal, Sriprakash Jaiswal has laid the foundation stone for Neyveli Lignite Corporation’s joint venture (JV) project on June 11, 2012 at Ghatampur, Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier, pursuant to the memorandum of understanding entered by the company with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (UPRVUNL), the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure, Government of India has accorded its approval for formation of JV Company with UPRVUNL, with shareholding of 51% of the equity capital by Neyveli Lignite Corporation and 49% by UPRVUNL for setting up of a 1980 MW coal based thermal power project.
Neyveli Lignite Corporation is engaged in the business of lignite mining and power generation. At present, the company has four opencast lignite mines with a capacity of about 30.60 million tonnes per annum, while it can produce about 2,740 MW of power from four power plants.
