Tata Power has won ‘Domain Excellence in biodiversity conservation’ award at CII-ITC Sustainability Awards 2017. Tata Power is the only company to win the award for the second consecutive year.
Tata Power achieved outstanding results for conserving endangered Mahseer fish species over the last 40 years. The company has setup a hatchery in Lonavala, which breeds the species and is distributed to state fisheries departments for release into the wild. Through its bio-diversity strategy, the company has been systematically working for biodiversity conservation and has initiated many activities, including massive afforestation programs in the northern Western Ghats and community-led conservation efforts in Kutch. Over 1,000 hectares of mangroves have been restored, and the company has successfully preserved catchment areas around hydro reservoirs in Northern-Western Ghats.
