Ambuja Cements, India’s leading cement maker, shipments in July rose 14 percent from a year ago to 1.7 million tonnes. The company, in which Swiss cement maker Holcim holds about 46 percent saw production in July rising to 1.67 million tonnes from 1.41 million tonnes a year earlier.

Recently, Ambuja Cements reported a 0.99% dip in June sales at 17.00 lakh tones as compared to the same month last year. The company had recorded 17.17 lakh tones sales in June 2010. Cumulative sales of the company during the January-June period, however, were up by 1.30% to 110.29 lakh tones against 108.87 lakh tones during the corresponding period a year ago.

The company’s net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 slipped by 11.17% at Rs 347.50 crore as compared to Rs 391.21 crore for the same quarter last year. Its total income increased by 6.19% to Rs 2245.22 crore for the quarter under review from Rs 2114.30 crore for the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
