Grasim Industries curtails production at its staple fibre plant

03 Jul 2012 Evaluate

Grasim Industries has curtailed production at its staple fibre plant located at Nagda in Madhya Pradesh from July 01, 2012 and the said plant is likely to be closed from July 03, 2012. The company has taken this step due to delay in onset of monsoon and consequential water shortage. Separately, the company’s Chlor-Alkali plant at Nagda has also curtailed production to about 50% of its rated capacity of 258,000 TPA.

Due to additional arrangements for temporary water storage this year, the company was able to manage operation till now. However, with delayed monsoon against all forecasts of normal rains by mid June, it is now forced to resort to closure of the staple fibre plant at Nagda. The plants will resume normal capacity as soon as there are adequate rains in the catchment area.

Besides, the company is, however, operating its other staple fibre plants located at Kharach in Gujarat and Harihar in Karnataka at their full capacity.
