Ashok Leyland spurts on reporting 30% jump in August sales number

Ashok Leyland is currently trading at Rs 21.05, up by 0.45 points or 2.18% from its previous closing of Rs 20.60 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs 21.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs 21.20 and Rs 20.90 respectively. So far 253169 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Re 1 has touched a 52 week high of Rs 32.90 on 02-May-2012 and a 52 week low of Rs 20.05 on 22-Dec-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs 21.20 and Rs 20.25 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs 5600 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 38.61% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 29.89% and 18.07% respectively.

Ashok Leyland, Hinduja Group’s flagship company has reported a 30.4% jump in sales in August 2012 at 9,432 units compared to 7,232 units in the same month of last year. For the five-month period April to August 2012, the commercial vehicle maker sold 46,704 units, up by 35.9% against 34,343 units in the same period of last year.

However, the commercial vehicle sales in August declined by 9% to 6,597 units from 7,218 in the same month last year. The company sold 33,818 commercial vehicles during the April-August 2012 period compared to 34,329 units sold in the same period last year.

Moreover, the company sold 2,835 units of small commercial vehicle-Dost, in August and 12,886 units during the period April to August 2012.
