Harrisons Malayalam (HML) has received permission from Kerala High Court (HC) to cut 83,000 rubber trees from its 10 estates in four districts. The court has also directed to furnish a bank guarantee of Rs 20 crore before cutting the trees.

The order in this regard was issued by a division Bench comprising Justices, M Sashidharan Nambiar and P Bhavadasan on a petition by the plantation company to cut old rubber trees from its estates in Kollam, Pathnamthitta, Kottayam and Thrissur districts.

However, the Bench has warned the company that no trees should be cut from the forest area and has also directed forest officials to ensure strict supervision when the trees are cut.

Harrisons Malayalam is primarily engaged in production of tea. The company also has business interests in areas of rubber, spices and horticulture crops, tissue culture, engineering and services and clearing and shipping.
