09 Jan 2013 Evaluate

Sona Koyo Steering Systems has decided to spend Rs 30 crore each in FY13 and FY14. The company will use these funds to relocate the manufacturing operations at Gurgaon to five other locations in the next one-and-a-half years. The Gurgaon facility, which has various manufacturing lines, is nearly 25 years old. Hence these manufacturing lines are planned to shift to the new locations to adopt the latest manufacturing technology and to improve efficiencies.

The manufacturing operations will be shifted to three plants in Dharuhera, also in Haryana, one each in Sanand, Gujarat, and Chennai. Besides efficiencies in manufacturing, the shift will also help the company increase capacity.

Sona Koyo Steering Systems started operations as a supplier of steering systems to Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL), in technical and financial collaboration with JTEKT Corporation (Japan) along with equity participation by MSIL.
