ONGC Tripura Power project to commence commercial operations by mid-Feb

22 Jan 2013 Evaluate

After being on trial run for the last couple of weeks, the first unit of the 2 x363.3 ONGC Tripura Power (OTPC), subsidiary of oil giant ONGC, at Palatana in Tripura is set to start commercial operations by mid-February. However, this will be possible only if EPC contractor BHEL successfully stabilizes the unit. The OTPC started operating turbines of first unit on October 22.

Further, with the transmission line from Palatana to Silchar in Assam already having been commissioned and on course to be extended up to Byrnihat in Meghalaya by the end of this month, the company expects to offer adequate load to run the unit at full capacity.

ONGC is a premier oil and gas company in India, accounting for 71% of the country’s crude oil production and 54% of its natural gas production in 2011-12. It is also a significant producer of value added products such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), superior kerosene oil (SKO), and naphtha. GoI is the majority shareholder in ONGC, with a 69% equity stake as of now.
