OMDC crosses legal hurdle in reasserting rights over three mining leases

24 Jan 2013 Evaluate

Orissa Minerals Development (OMDC) has won a legal battle for rights over three mining leases, namely Kolha-Roida (255 hectares), Thakurani (1,547 ha) and Dalki (266.77 ha), from Bharat Process & Mechanical Engineers. Bharat Process & Mechanical Engineers, an erstwhile group company now is in liquidation process. Earlier, the official liquidator, appointed by the Calcutta High Court, guided OMDC to hand over the three iron ore mines lease lands located in Keonjhar district in Odisha.

The entity had contested the liquidator’s claim at the High Court, which ruled in favor of the company. The Official Liquidator withdrew its order and the case was disposed off by the High Court. It is now free to pursue the lease renewal and mining related processes for the un-operational mining assets.
