CESC reports 36% rise in Q3 net profit

CESC has reported results for third quarter ended December 31, 2012.

The company has reported 36.49% rise in its net profit at Rs 101.00 crore for the quarter as compared to Rs 74.00 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Total income from operation of the company has increased by 6.08% at Rs 1064.00 crore for quarter under review as compared to Rs 1003.00 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2011.

CESC, a part of the RP-SG Group, has a license to supply electricity in Kolkata and Howrah till 2019. The license area is of 567 sq. km and caters to about over 2.6 million consumers at present. It currently has a generating capacity of 1225 MW (all coal based). The company operates the oldest unit at New Cossipore on an ‘as needed’ basis during the periods of peak demand in order to generate electricity in a cost - efficient manner.
