NTPC to float tenders for 1,980 MW Power project in next fiscal

22 Feb 2013 Evaluate

After the Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) nod to National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), for setting up the 1,980 MW North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Plant in Jharkhand, the company will now start finalising the process for competitive bidding to procure equipment thermal power plant. Further, worth nearly Rs 14,000 crore are expected to come by next fiscal (2013-14).

CCI on February 20,2013, also gave nod to restore the original coal linkage for the project that has been cleared for setting up in the vicinity of Tandwa town, district Chatra in Jharkhand. Earlier, the coal ministry had withdrawn the coal linkage for NTPC's Rs 14,000 crore project in 2008 and wanted its relocation to another site in the district, given that the proposed site was on potential six billion tonnes of coal reserves.

However, the public sector power producer already had obtained statutory clearances related to land, water, forest and environment prior to the Coal Ministry flagging issues to re-locate the project. The company has spent nearly Rs 250 crore on land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R), community development activities, construction of an ITI building, and approach and diversion roads, among others.
