Jet Airways has deferred its plan to expand its network in Europe through Munich airport, till its deal materializes with the Middle-eastern carrier. Soon after the civil aviation minister allowed the carrier to start 35 new flights to Munich, India’s second largest airline in terms of market share, in order to facilitate its expansion of routes into European cities, entered into talks with German carrier Lufthansa for membership in Star Alliance, one of the largest global airline grouping along with a hub at Munich airport. However, the carrier has adopted a go slow approach in its European expansion plan, ever after the ministry allowed foreign carriers to pick up 49% stake in Indian carriers.

Meanwhile, in signs of a possible deal with Etihad, Jet Airways, recently, has sought Aviation Ministry’s approval for 10,000 additional weekly seats between Indian cities and Abu Dhabi. The move is significant as this will allow Jet to fly passengers to the Middle East for onwards travel on Etihad’s network.

Jet Airways, including its subsidiary Jet Konnect, currently operates a fleet of 16 ATR 72-500 and 1 ATR 72-600 aircraft, and will introduce an additional 4 new ATR 72-600 aircraft into its fleet. The airline has been operating ATR aircraft since 1999 and has covered its fleet with GMAs since the beginning of its partnership with ATR.
