NTPC’s Korba Super Thermal Power Plant records above 90% PLF

08 Apr 2013 Evaluate

In a great achievement, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC)’s Korba Super Thermal Power Plant in Korba district of Chhattisgarh had recorded above 90 per cent Plant Load Factor (PLF), a measure of average capacity utilization, in the financial year 2012-13. Further, the station has achieved all MoU targets in operation area during the fiscal. This achievement is a significant one as the station is 30-year-old and has been categorized as the vintage plant of the country's largest power producer, more so since the plant has operated in adverse technical conditions in the last fiscal following the collapse of its ash-dyke. The ash-dyke collapsed following heavy rains in September 2011, the impact of which continued to haunt the operations of the plant even in the financial year 2012-13.

During the financial year 2012-13, NTPC has added 4,170 MW which is the highest ever capacity addition by NTPC in any financial year. The total commercial capacity of NTPC has become 34,820 MW and the total commissioned capacity of NTPC Group becomes 41,184 MW.
