Reliance Communications, India's second-largest mobile phone carrier by subscribers is likely to sell its stake in its telecom units. The company is in advanced talks with a number of consortiums for selling the stake, which will be the largest private equity transaction in India.
The company aims to cut its debt by selling their stake. RCom posted its eighth consecutive profit decline in the quarter ended June with the debt of more than Rs 34,350 crore ($7 billion). RCom's founders will raise their stake in the company to 75%, from 67.9% at the end of June.
Recently, RCom launched a special festival scheme under which its 3G customers are offered triple data download at the cost of a single plan. With this special offer the Reliance 3G customers can now download three times more data than the existing download limit and that too without paying extra charges.
