RCOM surges on hiking basic rates for both GSM, CDMA pre-paid mobile-to-mobile calls by 33%

RCOM is currently trading at Rs. 113.50, up by 5.20 points or 4.80% from its previous closing of Rs. 108.30 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 109.70 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 113.80 and Rs. 109.50 respectively. So far 16, 87,000 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 5 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 117.40 on 20-May-2013 and a 52 week low of Rs. 46.60 on 30-Aug-2012.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 117.40 and Rs. 100.55 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 23,426 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 67.86% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 17.31% and 14.54% respectively.

Reliance Communications (RCOM), the country’s no 3 mobile phone carrier by customers has raised the basic rates for both GSM and CDMA pre-paid mobile-to-mobile calls by 33%. The company will now charge base rate of 2 paise per second for mobile-to-mobile calls from 1.5 paise per second charged earlier.

The base rate, or the headline tariff, applies to customers not covered under any special scheme offered by telecom operator. The company had earlier this month increased the mobile call rates up to 30% for both GSM and CDMA pre-paid customers to improve the profits. The increase in mobile-to-mobile call rates among old players, except Aircel, has gone up by up to 100% in last two years.
