Sterlite Industries to recommence production from Tuticorin Copper Smelter

Sterlite Industries has received the National Green Tribunal (NGT) approval to recommence production from its Tuticorin Copper Smelter. NGT has laid down certain conditions and the company will be working closely with the regulatory authorities for the same. The company expects to resume production in approximately one week.

Sterlite Industries (India) is India’s largest diversified metals and mining company. The company produces aluminium, copper, zinc, lead, silver, and commercial energy and has operations in India, Australia, Namibia, South Africa and Ireland.

The company has reported 3-fold jump in its net profit at Rs 285.32 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2013 as compared to Rs 86.43 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Total income of the company has increased by 9.33% at Rs 5352.87 crore for quarter under review as compared to Rs  4895.96 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2012.
