ONGC’s overseas arm in talks with Gazprom to develop LNG projects

ONGC Videsh, the overseas arm of Indian state-run explorer Oil & Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has showed keen interest in Russia’s Sakhalin-III and other fields and is in close talks with OAO Gazprom to jointly develop projects to produce liquefied-natural-gas (LNG) and gas pipelines.

ONGC Videsh, which holds a 20% stake in Russia’s Sakhalin I oil-and-gas field and is interested in participating in the Sakhalin-III and other fields. ONGC Videsh produced 9.45 million tonnes of oil and oil-equivalent gas in the year ended March 31, 2011. It aims to source 20 million tonnes a year from overseas assets by 2020 and is looking to pick up stakes in overseas exploration and production assets to realize the target.

Saperately, Petronet LNG, India’s largest LNG importer by volume, is also interested in partnering with ONGC’s overseas investment arm for LNG and other projects.
