National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), India’s biggest power generation utility, is in process of setting up its biggest solar (green) power station of 50 megawatts in Rajgarh district at Madhya Pradesh entailing an investment of around Rs 700 crore. This will be the company's biggest non-conventional energy project which would be set up in Madhya Pradesh.
The company will sell the entire power generated from this project to the electricity-starved state of Madhya Pradesh. For this the government will soon ink a power purchase agreement with NTPC.
However, the company has already kick started the process of setting up 5 MW and 15 MW solar stations in Orissa, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The company at present is working on generating over 100 MW solar power energy projects across the country.
Recently, NTPC had signed a contract agreement with Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh on December 13, 2011 for providing operation and maintenance (O&M) services for the 2x120 MW gas based Siddhirganj Peaking power plant located near Dhaka in Bangladesh.
