National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Secretary (Power), Government of India, for generation 217 billion units of electricity during the financial year 2009-10.  This represents mere 3.1% increase in power generation from the target of 210.3 billion units in FY 2008-09.  NTPC has actually generated 201.634 billion units from 1^st April 2008 to 23^rd March 2009, which is about 2% less than the target for this period. 

The MoU also specifies targets of important milestones relating to project completion schedule of ongoing power projects, coal mining activities etc. In addition, it also includes target in respect of subsidiaries like NVVB, NESCL, NHL and Kanti Bijlee Utpadan Nigam.

In another development, the total power capacity of NTPC group has touched 30,144 MW as of 31^st March 2009.  This was achieved when the second plant of 2 * 250 unit Bhilai expansion power project of NATPC Sail Power Company, in which NTPC has 50% stake, was successfully synchronized on 28^th March 2009.
